"WE HAVE our very
own equine version of Luis Suarez at Richard Hannon's yard. His name is Baltic
Knight and- weather- permitting - he will seek to defy top weight in Sandown's
valuable mile handicap (2.40). At Windsor last time he ran much his best race of the season when second in a
Listed race he might have won but deciding to bite Jamie Spencer's foot Baltic Knight was withdrawn from his Saturday Sandown race due to the going. Keep an eye out to see when he next runs. Richard says here "He therefore needs rain to run, "
"Jamie was aboard
the winner, Custom Cut, who was in front of Baltic Knight and on his right as
my lad tried to get by him in the closing stages. About 75 yards from the line
he looked set to win - and he would have won - but instead he attempted to take
a lump out of Jamie, I was so busy trying to get him past the horse in front I
didn't bother pulling him away from Jamie.
" At first I
thought he was just going to have a little nip and then go on by - but he
didn't go on by and instead decided to have a second bite, In the horse's
defence I should stress he is not in any way vicious. As I told Jamie after the
race, he was only playing, although I'm not entirely sure that made Jamie or
his foot feel much better.
JMC: Baltic Knight lost concentration, bored maybe his mind was wondering, plotting
a little game perhaps, like teasing Jamie Spencer aboard Custom Cut. To give
Jamie a little nip in passing maybe, and
ignoring Richard's by now urgent request to hustle up, to get going and win
this race.
Baltic Knight wasn't listening to Richard though. Baltic Knight was advancing in his own little adventure game instead. Much more interesting no doubt to Baltic Knight at that particular time.
"Encouragingly , a tired horse would not have thought of biting Jamie Spencer. That suggests he is now right back in form. He returned to us very heavy this year and it has taken some time to get him fit.Windsor

Baltic Knight's mindset
had a different perspective than that of Richard Hughes in this race. Maybe Baltic Knight was a little bit bored
with racing this day.
Maybe Baltic Knight took a playful little nip at Jamie Spencer to lighten the
mood up a little bit. Maybe as Jamie
didn't respond much to the first nip, Baltic
Knight thought another little nip should jog Jamie's memory that he, Baltic
Knight, was asking Jamie to play a little game with him.

not a decent draw - over a course on which he has run well in the past, Jamie

JMC: In
a predicament like this one Richard left well alone as only 75 yards from the
winning line. If this had happened earlier in this race Richard could have called
Baltic Knight's attention to the fact he was not paying attention, by giving Baltic
Knight a timely flick of the whip as a reminder to pay attention would have
done the trick. A warning flick. Not a direct hit at all.

"Wrong to punish the
owner with steroid ban" .

"I
SUPPORT the decision by the BHA regarding the steroid issue, but as an owner I
fail to see how it is right to ban the horse for up to a year or so.
"I have raced horses for more
than 40 years and have yet to be asked by a trainer to authorise medication for
my horses. If a trainer transgresses the rules by applying steroids or such it
cannot be right that an innocent owner is penalised by the loss of use of his
horse.
"If this is to be the case,
however, then perhaps the Racehorse Owners Association should be insisting on all trainers taking
out an indemnity policy to compensate the owner for the loss of use of his
horse."
